Hurricane Erick & Hurricane Flossie: 7/30 5PM Update

Here is the latest on Hurricane Erick and Hurricane Flossie.

Hurricane Erick: Erick has maintained its strength with maximum sustained winds of 130 miles per hour, moving to the WNW at 15 miles per hour. Erick is now 750 ESE of Hilo and is still forecast to weaken significantly as it approaches Hawaii. Erick's forecast track still takes it well south of the Big Island of Hawaii and the other main Hawaiian Islands throughout the upcoming weekend.

Hurricane Flossie: Flossie strengthened slightly over the day today, gaining hurricane status at midday and strengthening more to 80 mile-per-hour sustained winds as of 5PM Hawaii time. Flossie remains about 2000 miles ESE of Hilo, but moving to the WNW at 14 miles per hour. Flossie is expected to slowly gain strength over the next couple days. Its general forecast track is heading towards the Big Island of Hawaii, but the storm remains too far away to accurately forecast whether it will affect the Big Island or other islands directly.
