Rod Wave's legal team is speaking out after the Florida rapper was arrested over the weekend.
According to CBS News, the "Tombstone" rapper, born Rodarius Green, was arrested on Friday, November 7, following a traffic stop in metro Atlanta. Police claim Rod Wave ran through a stop sign, which prompted them to pull him over. During the stop, the officer reportedly found marijuana and a baby bottle “containing one fl oz of a purple liquid" that the officer suspected to be Promethazine. They also discovered Oxycodone, a beige Sig Sauer P320 9mm, and a bag full of cash.
"On November 7, the same day Rodarius Green earned a Grammy nomination, he was unjustly profiled and unlawfully arrested in Atlanta," the rapper's attorneys Drew Findling, Marissa Goldberg, and Zack Findling wrote in a joint statement. "The arresting officer belongs to the Atlanta Police Department’s controversial Crime Suppression Unit—a group known for its aggressive tactics and emphasis on high arrest numbers rather than genuine public safety. Mr. Green was targeted as part of this quota-driven approach, a practice that undermines justice and erodes community trust. We look forward to vigorously challenging this baseless arrest and the clear violations of Mr. Green’s rights in court."
Rod Wave was booked into the Fulton County jail on charges of possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, reckless driving, possession of a Schedule V controlled substance and possession of Schedule II controlled substance. He only spent a day in jail before posting his $8,000 bail. He was arrested on the same day he earned his first-ever Grammy nomination. The 27-year-old artist's song "Sinners" from the Sinners soundtrack was nominated for "Best Song Written For Visual Media."
