A fleet of police officers plan to keep the peace during Kendrick Lamar's upcoming music video shoot in his hometown.
According to a report TMZ published on Friday, June 21, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will send numerous deputies to help protect Kendrick and everyone involved with the "Not Like Us" music video. K. Dot plans to film the video at various notable spots in Compton this Saturday. The pgLang co-founder's team took out all the right permits to make the shoot possible, and the production company will pay $120 an hour to ensure police provide extra security.
Security is necessary for the video shoot, especially in the aftermath of Kendrick Lamar and Drake's beef. Shortly after "Not Like Us" dropped in May, some bad actors took things too far when they shot a security guard in front of Drizzy's home in Toronto. After the drive-by shooting, there were a couple of other disturbances at the OVO Sound rapper's mansion that had police doubling back to the property. The L.A. County Sheriff's Office said they are aware of the beef, but confirmed that there are no active threats to the video shoot at this time.
The video shoot will close out an active week for L.A.'s finest following Kendrick Lamar's "The Pop Out" show at The Forum. Dozens of California artists hit the stage with DJ Hed and Mustard before K. Dot delivered his anticipated performance. During his set, Kendrick performed diss tracks like "euphoria" and "6:16 In L.A." live for the first time and brought out friends like Jay Rock, ScHoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul. For the finale, Lamar surprised the crowd by inviting Dr. Dre on stage to perform his hits and introduce "Not Like Us." Kendrick performed the song five times while surrounded by all his special guests.
